5 Reasons Why Vacations Matter

It’s no secret work can be stressful, and often times the day-to-day routine can take a toll on your health and overall well-being.  We live in a highly career-driven world, so it’s easy to get too wrapped up in your work and have other aspects of your life take a back seat. Overextending yourself can have the opposite effect on your productivity. While hard work and commitment are admirable attributes to withhold in any job, you must strike a balance in order to sustain momentum.

Not getting enough sleep can make you less motivated and productive. Taking a vacation can help get your sleeping habits back on track, or at the very least, help you catch up on some lost z’s.
  4. Mood boost: Having something to look forward to tends to improve people’s moods. Plan a fun getaway and mark it on your calendar to give yourself something exciting to anticipate. The work day routine can sometimes dampen your enthusiasm, so going on vacation or even enjoying a stay-cation can boost your overall mood and outlook.
  5. Improved mental health: Treating yourself to time away from the office is a great way to give yourself and your mind a rest. Sometimes work-related stress is unavoidable, but it’s important to not let too much strain affect our mental wellness. Vacations can restore your mental health by allowing your mind to relax and unwind for a bit.

Taking some time off and utilizing paid time off is not only vital to your health, but to your success in the office. Taking the initiative to unplug and recharge away from your desk has a world of benefits. Your company has granted you time off for a reason, so don’t be afraid to use it. You also don’t need to go on an extravagant trip in order to justify a vacation. Even taking some time off and catching up on some sleep and Netflix works too.
